[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These little girls were giggling as I came over to take their picture. The one girl seemed to be saying, "Ssh, don't tell!" But her friend could not tell me any secrets anyway, with my limited knowledge of Polish. :)

This was in a very poor neighborhood in the Krakow area. I wasn't told until later what a bad neighborhood it was. The parents didn't seem to care where the children were. One of my friends asked, "Aren't their parents afraid that they will be kidnapped?" The answer was: "No one would kidnap them. Who would want them?"

I found the kids cute and friendly, and they loved every bit of attention I gave them. The language barrier did not seem to bother them. I wish I could see these kids again today and let them know that I remember them and love them.

Post-Processing: I used the Color Stylizer filter from Nik Color Efex Pro to give it a bit of a sepia look.

I thought the subject and pov were great, but the focus needed a bit of help.

Very good point, Erin, on the kids, there were thousands of forgotten ones in Romania under Communism (Ceaucescu) and many came here and got some relief, thank goodness! Be that as it may, they look fairly healthy and cared-for. Poor is not defined by where we live, just the homeless aspect or not being taken care of is the worst.

This is a lovely shot Erin, I like the softness it has.. excellent job

Filter works really well here. it is a gorgeous shot - a little nostalgic perhaps, as if it could have been taken any time in the last 50 years. They do look a little dirty - but i think this adds to the mood of the shot. well done.

Nice PP. It gives an old washed out color print look that suits the subject and bckg as well.

PS your note brings tears to my eyes

dear Erin
Your love of children comes through time and again -- and they respond to your love instinctively. This is a super capture of a moment in real life once again. and your PP work enhances the whole extremely well.

Hi Erin,
Your photos with children are wonderful. For this reason i want to add you to my favorits.

My daily critique limit has just finished. sorry, i cant mark.

Sepia is good.
Moods of the girl who is with yellow hair is too nice :)

I prefer a space between the right side of the photo and the foot of the dark haired girl, as there is a space between the left side of the photo and the hand of the blonde girl...

Thanks for sharing,
Dr.Cihan Selcuk Eksi

I love the 'feel' of this photo. It looks like you have captured a moment when the girls were deep in the 'world of play' - not an easy thing to do.
