[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A Serra da Estrela é a maior elevação de Portugal Continental, e a segunda maior em território da República Portuguesa (apenas o Pico, nos Açores, a supera). Tem 1993 metros de altitude e está situada entre os municípios de Seia e da Covilhã.

A real altitude da serra da Estrela, no seu cume, a Torre, é de 1993 m, conforme rectificações introduzidas por medições realizadas pelo Instituto Geográfico do Exército, já surgidas em folha à escala 1:25.000 que editou em 1993 (carta nº. 223). Assim, a altitude correntemente aceite de 1991 m, ainda muito divulgada, deve ser abandonada. Para completar os 2000 m foi construída uma torre de 7 m.

Julga-se que corresponda à elevação a que os tratadistas romanos da Antiguidade chamavam de Montes Hermínios (Herminius Mons), e ter sido o berço do guerreiro lusitano Viriato.

O ponto mais alto, a Torre, situa-se no concelho de Seia, distrito da Guarda. Também no concelho de Seia se situa a Estância de Esqui Vodafone, a única estância de esqui de Portugal, desenvolvendo-se a mesma nas encostas da serra que pertencem à freguesia de Loriga. As temperaturas mais baixas de Portugal são registadas no cume da Serra, com mínimas que atingem a marca de -20°C no Inverno.

Na Serra da Estrela situa-se o Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela.

O Queijo da Serra da Estrela, considerado um dos melhores queijos de Portugal, é produzido nesta região, que também possui uma raça de cães originária da localidade, o cão da Serra da Estrela.

Em relação ao turismo a atracção principal desta serra é sem dúvida a neve.

Serra da Estrela (English: Mountain Range of the Star) is the highest mountain range in Portugal and includes mainland Portugal's highest point (the summit of the Pico mountain in the Portuguese Azores islands is higher, however). The range is at 1,993 m (around 6,541 feet) above mean sea level at its highest point. This point is not a distinctive mountain summit, but rather the highest point in a plateau, being known as Torre ("Tower" in English). The Torre has the unusual feature of being a summit that is accessible by paved road.

There is a ski resort at the summit, named Vodafone Ski Resort.

The mountain range, situated between the municipalities of Seia, Manteigas, Gouveia, Guarda and Covilhã, is about 100 km (62.13 miles) long and is 30 km (18.64 miles) at its widest point. It is formed from a huge granite ridge that once formed the southern frontier of the country. Due to its bizarrely shaped crags and gorges, mountain streams and lakes, beautiful forests and magnificent views, the area ranks among Portugal’s outstanding scenic attractions.

Olá Marco,
O que mais impressiona nesta excelente foto é, em primeiro lugar a fantástica profundidade de campo, com excelente ângulo. Bela perspectiva.
Já de outro plano, um enorme valor simbólico e, para mim, sentimental já que frequentei muito esse local guiado por Miguel Torga.

Nice idea and POV. I would suggest rotating the shot slightly to keep the horizontal element of the road's surface flat and level.

I also think less central composition would be more powerful; perhaps if you cropped this top and bottom for a more panoramic effect?

Good idea though, good colours and light.
