The light. I like the bright light. Good choice of bokeh and the BG color to compose the bird with white body against the orange color tone. I would like it even better if you lower a bit the let the shadow go below the feet but I suppose we cannot win it all because the bird's head tilt may be gone in a second. Happy 2009 to you.

yes seagulls live not only the seashore but also the city rather far from the sea,
here in Hokkaido, also seagulls live the big city of Sapporo,
and they are competing against the crows.
anyway,
white seagull is vivid against the orange roof back, and its eye is keen quite like the seagull here.

The background makes an excellent background and contrast for this seagull. The white on the front of the gull is OE, but the brightness does add to the mood of the image. Now...I wonder what he is thinking:)
