I dont often do animal posting here, but this one deserves it.
Meet Turco or Turk (in english) a Serra da Estrela shepard dog, one of the oldest races in the Iberian Peninsula, and a beautifull animal.
Weighting about 60 kilos and reaching 73 cm height, this dog can really scare anyone and anything. But heres the catch: altough used for generations to fight of wolves this animal developed a strong sense of family and territory, their usually brave and confident animals but extremely carefull with children and family members.
I've seen this guy serve as a pillow for two year old, or becaming a "horse", and taking it all with stunning patience.
On the other hand these are dogs famous to lay down their lives to defend their family against outside threats, so if you come across one, respect distances until the family welcomes you, after that he will treat like as a new member and a new friend. |

Wow Afonso, great note with a great image.
Maybe the door-fence should be straight-up, but the main person, the dog, is very good visible.
Beautiful colors too.
greetings,
Joop!
