[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Found some old negatives the other day and decided to post one of them. This was photographed directly from the negative, using extension tubes (3 in a row: 13mm, 21mm and 31mm) and a tripod. quality is not brilliant. intentionally left the scratches, I like the old feel, and it's well deserved, these negatives have survived 14 years of abuse, about 10 house relocations, 1 flood, 2 years in a damp garage and god knows what else.

Original photo was taken at the end of the day, in november 1993, on the beaches in Costa da Caparica where the fisherman used to pull the nets in.
The original was quite good, had great sharpness and detail, although contrast could have been better (used to correct that with Ilford filters in the darkroom) and the Ilford HP5 plus film had a bit too much grain (it's a ISO 400). Lost a lot of the sharpness when i photographed the negative. Camera was a Canon AE1 program.

This version is actually a remake of what I did back in 1993 when I was 19. I had a darkroom and I used to hand paint some of my photos. I remember doing exactly this to it at the time (sepia tones in darkroom using potassium ferricyanide, and hand-painted yellow coat using Talens Ecoline paints - they gave a nice transparent effect) This time it took me 10 minutes, as opposed to 4 hours when i first did it.

PP:
Photographed Negative in b/w RAW mode
Inverted image.
Duplicated layer and masked out all but coat
applied a colorize to make coat yellow.
Applied variations (+yellow +red) for sepia tone
added frame
resized for TL

Fantástica, a foto.

Isa

ciao Simon,

I like the sparseness of this image, the reflections on the water and the general sense of space. Interesting idea to resurrect an old negative.

It reminds of when I used to go to a public photo lab. People would bring in old negative and develop them in the lab with very interesting and historic results.

in boca a lupo!

U have made a nice remake of the old picture. (quality is not brilliant) its giving an old picture feeling I like the quality and the scratches looks cool. In the end very informative note.
