This is my eulogy to my hometown, Cugir. It is a mountain town in southwestern Transylvania.
Located in the district of Alba, Cugir lies 12 km south of the E68 (DN 7) route - where this sign is located :D - and railway corridor, which cross Southern Transylvania from east, the city of Brasov, to west, the city of Arad and over the border into Hungary.
The town was first mentioned in documents in 1493, as "villa Kudzyr". The town receives different names throughout history, all having similar pronunciations: Kwczyr (1566, 1596), Kuchier, Kuchyer (1577), Kuchir (1599), Kutser (1617), Kuchjir, Kuchyr (1656), Kucsir (1673), Kuser (1733), Kudsier (1750), Kudzser (1760-1762), Kudsir (1805), Kusir (1850).
The town has a mixed population of mainly Romanian, Hungarian, German Saxon, Czech and Slovak origins.
You can see more photos of the town on TE.
