Or about manmade rock versus the natural one, or about how man could do something that nature couldn't - stop the river on its way to the sea.

Wikipedia says :
It is an arch dam built on a foundation of rock, and it was built to produce hydroelectricity. Its construction has also created a reservoir, Lake Vidraru. Dam height is 166 meters, arch length 305 meters, water accumulation volume 465 million cubic meters, having a total length of 28km.

Dam's construction lasted for 5 years and a half. It required 42km of subterranean tunnels, excavation of 1.768.000 cubic meters of hard rocks, out of which approximatively 1 million had to be extracted from the undergrounds, 930.000 cubic meters of concrete , out of which 400.000 cubic meters underground and required the installation of 6.300 tons of electromechanics equipment.

At the completion date, it ranked 5th in Europe, and 9th in the world. In a medium hydrological year it can generate an approximate of 400 GWh/year.

Thanks Helen for your wonderful friday themes

have a great weekend,
v

O poza foarte bine compusa, Vlad. Am fost acolo in anii '70...

PS. Capsunile putin prea galbene intradevar.

Salutari,
Tibi

Hi Vlad.
I like composition of the image, with this parabolic shape of the dam, dividing photo on two parts.
You have captured a lot of details here: tunnel, cars, people, water - whole story at one photo.
BW - the best choice here.
One more thing: I'm a civil engineer, so this is also interesting for me cause of professional reasons.
Thank you for this great post.
Best wishes from sunny Belgrade.

I just think about the hours, days, months, years it takes to build. And all that work and man power to build it.
"Excavation of 1.768.000 cubic meters of hard rocks" - WOW!
Good one Vlad

Hi Vlad,

I like the way you compose it . . the curve that guide our view to a certain point at the far end . .
Yes, this is a huge dam that control the water . . I haven't seen this kind of thing in my life . . Many times only small sizes . .
Great shot my friend

Hi Vlad, this is quite a distabilizing image, the curve and the tilt enhances it. I feel vertigo looking at this :)
