Latin name: Polyommatus icarus

Size: Wingspan up to 35mms.
Months seen: May to October.
Food: Nectar. The caterpillars feed on bird's-foot trefoil
Habitat: Meadows, rough grassland and gardens.
Special features: On sunny days you can sometimes find these butterflies feeding together in small colonies. It's the most commonly seen of all the blue butterflies.
The bright blue male (above right) is unmistakable, but the female (left) is darker, and can have varying amounts of brown on the wings. The first will be on the wing from May to June, while the second emerges from late July to September. Further north there is normally only one brood appearing between July and August.

The green caterpillars are about 10mms long, quite flattened in appearance, and have a shiny black head.

Hi Mariana,

Another superb macro contribution from you!
This time, the common blue looks so nice from an unusual POV but the colors of the butterfly are so attractive, making this picture a very eye-catching one. I like the DOF in the image and the great contrast between the butterfly's colors and the green blurry BG.

Very well done!

best wishes,
Paras

Sorry, I don't have anymore points left for today :(

Hi Mariana,
The blue butterflies, this one is my favorite. The monitor is very trying on me that this will return true beauty. Probably failed. This they say is more beautiful than life. Congratulations

Hi Mariana,

This is a lovely macro of the blue butterfly, with superb sharpness and nice bokeh. The rear view of the butterfly isn't a typical one, but works well since the butterflies will soon be gone for the winter.

Warm regards,
Werner

Hi Mariana!

This is an interesting POV; I don't think I've seen a photo from this angle. You captured it well. The colors are beautiful!
