Liars Bridge Sibiu is the oldest metal bridge in Romania. Amended and consolidated several times in the last 150 years, the bridge is the subject of many anecdotes. If you entertain tourists, locals say refrain from any lie you cross the bridge, lest it to collapse.
The emblem of Sibiu is tread on daily by hundreds of locals and tourists. Being the oldest wrought iron bridge in the country, it is surrounded by several legends on the certificates as its resistance. In particular, four legends are known by almost all inhabitants of the city, all based on the similarity between the initial name of the bridge in German and the present. It already knows that most locals avoid any untruth to say when crossing the bridge, fearing it will collapse under the weight of their deceit. Elders say and the bridge has an ear, an unimaginable power and more intuitive, so every lie uttered, the bridge starts in one's glass and a noise that gives you shivers, rail begins to yield as and how should be done in the air. Within minutes, the bridge brings liar down to earth, literally and figuratively, of course. Thus, lying is prove stronger than wood or iron, and the bridge breaks under its own weight.
Another story talks about the fact that the Small Square, the market traders, was involved and horse-trading market. There were few cases in which, after negotiations, starting with the goods back home, some buyers found that they were fooled. Returning, i took of false and merchants chest in the spare razor laughter, threw them on the metal bridge. Thus, the scare was that made the foreign traders that the next time encamped in Sibiu Hermannstadt not to cheat. Of course, legend most credible and widely accepted by local people that makes the connection between the name of the bridge and couples who used to walk on the bridge, as do, in fact, today. It is said, but that when the young lovers, crossing the bridge at night and swear his eternal love, get to talk about bodily cleanliness of the face.Of course, all the girls claimed that they are loud and clean as tears. But, not infrequently the confession was only "gilded" the truth, and after the wedding night lying women were dragged and thrown from the bridge false vows. It is not known if the beds, but, big deal, considering that the haul of the bridge is only three meters.
Military "quarrel" with the truth
No soldiers were not ordered and rigorous chapbooks escaped popular. Thus, one of the legends is related to the Military Academy cadets, who stole the hearts of young ladies. . The favorite meeting place, sibiencelor are promising more, because then, the same bridge, to be allowed to wait in vain men watching them and, implicitly, the vows of love. Is truthful and that if put end to end this history, it is hard to decide on parties that believe them and the parties on which we see as untrue, but it is definitely proven that there are elements that we can put thoughts. For example, in the mid eighteenth century, the century which is already confirmed the Bridge of Lies, in Sibiu were registered around 1,300 soldiers. About exhibitions which is held in Piata Mica neither can the question of forgeries, since there are a lot of evidence to confirm them.
Suspension bridge
Liars Bridge was built in iron in 1859 by Hutt Fredericus after chronicles spoke before about a wooden bridge. So that was the first that was built on stilts, he was told and bridge bed. How Saxon language lexeme "lying" (Lugenmarchen) was the namesake word "lie", the bridge began to be called by locals "bridge lies" and it appeared that legends and justify the name. |

Hello Oana,
Your highly informative Note and the sharp emblem ought to be commended. A fine vertical composition, the creeping rose bush atop provide a good natural framing. I do like bridge compositions and this is certainly one of them. Best regards...
