Buna Anca

Numai bine,
Lucian

Hi Ance St.
Nice shot of an old man, lovely composition and great POV. Looks great in B&W.
Well done and keep it up.
My best wishes are always with you.
Regards,
M. Latif.

Hi, Anca, I don't think there is much wrong with this portrait. The wondeful smile on his face is so full of life (and, you know, these days, you tend to see cigarette smoking as full of death, so it creates an interesting tension). But it's mostly just a very close, very direct photo of a man with an attractive, lively face. The only thing that is bothersome, really, to me, is the white square on the lower left side. I can imagine what it might be, but I can't resolve it definitively, and so, it seems to be interfering in the frame. The only thing I can suggest is trying to see if you can fix it in Photoshop. With some patience, I bet you could. But even if you don't bother to do to that, it's still a lovely photo. Best, Hugh

Nice protrait. I love old faces. Old faces always tell so many stories. This face also has his own story ;). So nice.

Great shot.

Merel ;)

merhaba dear anca
beautiful black white portrait picture.
well done.
meery christmas and happy new year 2007.
best regards.

Should be a gorgeous one; very expressive face!
Black points:
1. The cup should be more visible and better a glass or without it.
2. Lack of sharpness; it is very important especially at old people to show their wrinkles which help to read their features, their life experience…
Is this lack of sharpness your style? It is something common at your photos…
I think lack of sharpness works at moving subjects, moods, experimental, generally when you wish to induce something to the onlooker.

Take a look at “Romuls_I” photos. First photo is not so sharpened but the model is moving and she looks in other direction, out of frame…

It would be better if the cup could seen. And the brightness is too much on the cub. But the composition and the emotion is great.

Salut Anca,
Unbelievable portrait!

Compliments and remarks already well stated by others. I agree with some of them ... though I do think that the plastic cup is a bit questionable. But the face is solid enough to cover the eventual defficiencies. Good job!

excellent street portrait here anca :)
i prefer this to the 2nd photo :)

the comp and framing is perfect for this type of portrait photos...some of the best street portraits i seen here on TL are those from voodoo(matt rambo)
take a look :) he shoots a lot of people on the streets at close range, i think what you are looking for may be there :)

what i see that may be "missing" here could be quality of the lens at this range...matt was also complaining about this with his Nikon kit lens, you'll see the improvements when you upgrade to better lens :)

i don't mind the cup :) it doesn't bother me
the eye contact from the subject made up for that :)

It's a great portrait or should I say model. I think @cclaudiu is right: it should be sharper.

Buna, ANca!

pupici,
Alex
