Happy Easter, everyone!
Sorry for not being active lately, I've been assigned new responsibilities... and free time gets shorter.
These days I'm using it to teach my two young cousins the traditional Romanian way of decorating Easter eggs (using a wax-resist process and successive dye baths). It's a very fun and relaxing activity, I'll give you more details later... maybe next year :D.
For another two weeks I won't have any camera at hand, so I can't share with you any of our "achievements" :( I tried using a scanner, but the results were... too strange.
I decided to do a (very) quick composition, so I used an older pp picture (from the spring of 2004). At that time I was just beginning to decorate eggs using the traditional technique and this was one of my first non-geometrical motifs, so I didn't really broke the egg for the picture ;) As you can see here, in the initial composition I used a not decorated eggshell.
Three years later, I created a mask around the front part of the broken eggshell, using the Polygonal Lasso Tool; then I used that mask to create a new layer from the decorated egg picture. In order to add a realistic touch, I deleted thin stripes from this layer's upper margin in some regions, leaving the white (cracked) margin of the eggshell visible.
Well, have a nice holiday! :) |

Hi Toni! Long time no see, I was just signing on to TL now to see what was up in the gallery quickly and I am glad I noticed yours (actually when I saw the pretty painted egg with Christ on it, and above it said the location was Romania, I thought of you :) ). Those symmetrical crosses with the dots are so familiar to me, of course ;). Copts write them at the end of letters or on mail after their signatures. The lighting on the egg is beautiful, bringing out the smooth form of the egg itself and the paint, the colors are beautiful (you have quite a hand at painting ;) ). Wonderful black background to make it pop out, and I like the use of that hand-written white text with the exclamation mark. It emphasizes the joyous and down-to-earth (no opposite pun intended at all, I swear, haha) atmosphere of Easter, IMO. Really good composition and balance with the egg off-center too. Okay the post-processing is awesome, I don't think I could ever do that in a million years. I read how you did it in the note you wrote here (but I still don't get it ;P). Oh well, lovely shot and very unique egg painting, thanks for sharing this part of your heritage! Happy Easter and "kol sana wenta tayeb" (it is Arabic for: all year and you are well). This is used as a greeting for someone during most holidays (I still haven't figured out how to say Happy Easter specifically in Arabic or Coptic, I will get back to you on that when I find out ;) ). Take care!

Adevarat a-nviat!
