and to all women’s who celebrate this Special Day...

March 8th is celebrated as Women's Day across the world. Many discussions will be arranged to mark the Women's Day celebrations. On March 8, 1857 in New York City, the female employees of a garment factory revolted against the management complaining under payment and uncongenial working atmosphere. Police did not tolerate this and the strike was put down forcibly. This revolt was an inspiration to women who were in same plight.

On March 8, 1908, 50 years after the first incident, more than 1500 women employees in New York put forth their demands and revolted. Their demands were:

• Justifiable salary
• Congenial working environment and
• Abandon child labour
• The right for franchise

These two revolts were remarkable in promoting the women's struggle for equality.
It is Clara Jetken, who is responsible for Women's Day celebration worldwide. She was a German politician and a fighter for women rights. On August 1910 in Copenhagen International Women Congress, she called for observing International Women's Day on Mar. 8, her demand was universally accepted.

The United Nations started observing women's day in the year 1975. In Dec. 1977 the United Nations passed a resolution that all the member countries should observe Women's Day on Mar. 8 for two reasons:

1) Without women's active participation there cannot be peace and social justice!
2) To recognise the women's contribution for international peace and security.
