[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We are always reading about the things we can achieve in PhotoShop or PaintShopPro or with freeware such as GIMP, but I never see Microsoft Paint Editor mentioned. And if I am not mistaken, it comes with Windows XP, so it should be sitting on a lot of computers ready to be used.
So I decided to postprocess a photo using that rather basic photo editor. I must admit that the raw material was a photo that had already been slightly enhanced and resized for posting on TrekEarth, but I am nevertheless pleased with the effect of first adding a watercolour filter and then a texture filter (canvas) to achieve this painting-like image. Normally I would have added a frame, but that is an extra that doesn't come with the microsoft software. Hope you like it.

PS Correction: I have later found out that the Photo Editor does not come with XP but was part of an earlier version of the Office Pack (which I have on this PC). I don't even know if it is part of the latest Office Pack. So some will have it and some not. Sorry if I misinformed anyone.

Hello Per.
Yes..I like this work of yours...a real painting.
Excellent work and good note too.
regards, Francesco

Nice try, Per. I like the tones. Aquarel style, maybe here and there add a water-smudging effect - if that's possible, 'course.
I'll get back to you on this subject soon - check your mail :)

Although I like the effect I do not feel that it has he4lped this photo in any way. I think the original is probably better without the art effect. Thanks for letting us know of this effect.

I know you like playing with filters, especially the painting kind, and I think this one is rather nice. The photo itself is well composed. I must check to see if I have this programme.

Ah! You and your creations! Besides the great work here, really love the simplicity of asking yourself why we dont use often what we have at a shorter price...yes! I see my self on those thougts too on manny situations. The harder to get the tool, the more you tend to search it. Hmmm...that can be a good philosophy when used on the right wheight.
Usually is hard for me to apreciate these works but i admit: you got yourself a great painting!

Check this out and have a nice weekend:

Yes. Nice compo and excellent - though "cheap" - PP work, Per. (With cheap I mean XP users needn't pay extra for paint).
Actually, I haven't used paint in a long time... 10 years or so, ever since Win95 was released. I like what you achieved here, though. And I think it would fit in with our Comic book theme, somehow.
TFS.

Hi Per,
This is a very nice piece of PP. I sometimes use the photo editor in XP so I know what you are talking about. The composition and POV is very good. May be you shouldpost the original as a ws so that we could see what you started with.
Sunil

very nice posting, looks like a watercolor or a fresco, I do this lots of times when I have a photo I like but is not really good. This really helps it out.
Christine.

Comes close to an old photo / painting
Simple it looks good
