Stendhal syndrome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stendhal syndrome or Stendhal's syndrome is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly 'beautiful' or a large amount of art is in a single place. The term can also be used to describe a similar reaction to a surfeit of choice in other circumstances, e.g. when shopping.

It is named after the famous 19th century French author Stendhal (pseudonym of Henri-Marie Beyle), who described his experience with the phenomenon during his 1817 visit to Florence, Italy in his book Naples and Florence: A Journey from Milan to Reggio.

Although there are many descriptions of people becoming dizzy and fainting while taking in Florentine art, especially at the Uffizi, dating from the early 19th century on, the syndrome was only named in 1979, when it was described by Italian psychiatrist Graziella Magherini, who observed and described more than 100 similar cases among tourists and visitors in Florence. The syndrome was first diagnosed in 1982.

The term is often used when describing the reactions of audiences to music of the Romantic period.

An extreme, fictionalized variation of Stendhal syndrome figures in the plot of the 2003 novel Diary by American author Chuck Palahniuk.

I admitt, I forgot how did I did this one in particulars...
I remember I've been shooting the sand on the beach on a after rainy morning..I had Headache...a terrible one...
I came home and the emptyness of the image from the beach made me shoot a authoportret, and assemblage the two images tougether.
I know that it took a lot of time and applications...but the result is here, and exactly what i wonted...an absorbing image...
My headache passed that day, and it's all up to you to criticize:))
Thanks:)

This is an amazing creation, Miuky, and a true artwork. Very powerful image with your self-portrait taken to show the pain of the headache and I can feel just looking at the image and the rest of the PP work makes for a very emotional & dramatic image. I could also interpret this one with a few other emotions: scared, angry, depressed, etc...My only nit-picky comment is that I would prefer if the black line in the upper left corner was not there and that we would only see the golden circle but that is a minor detail. Excellent!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fascinating note.... even more fascinating image. this is frightening image but it really puts the hook in me. To be honest while I have specialised in all kinds of mental conditions i have only brielfy encountered Stendal Syndrome. This may have taken a lot of time and effort but it was worth it.
incredible.

bute well composed!

see you around
Sid
..

Does look more like a nightmare / horror scene then like a visualization of a headache. But it looks interesting for sure. Good work.

Wow!!! This is a masterpiece. We realy get dizzy looking at it. The expression on the face gives a sense of panic.

This could be used as a poster or a CD album. It should be exposed.

Thanks for letting us ave the priviledge to see it.

Sylvain

woooooooow!

Reminds me of 'The Scream'.

Pretty rough emotion expression. Anger, fear, pain...
