this is world kow photo of jung Afganistan girl.I am very lucky becouse in april in Ljubljana is exibition of National geografic photography. 100 best photos of NG is in National galery and this is one of them.
Long story short, in 1985 the National Geographic Magazine clicked this childhood photo of her and it went on their magazine cover. She became a symbol of the state of Afgan women and chidren. But amidst this fame, NG reporters couldn’t trace this girl since then. And finally after 17 years they found this mysterious girl, who is a grown woman with children of her own now.

I know the picture.
I know the story.
I know the typical NG frame.
I do not know the exhibition, but I think this display with this background is not well chosen.
As a consequence, I do not like this photo very much. Maybe with the lens wide open and the BG blurred it could have been acceptable.
Just my opinion.

Hi Marjan,
it's an interesting shot with an interesting story behind. Her eyes are full of fear, we even can see it on the shot of a shot, thanks

This pic stayed with me for a long while but only recently I found out when and where it was made. That's the thing about photos when they get carved into someones memory. Too bad about the cars in the bckrnd.
Well done Marjan. I remember this National Geographic magazine, as I had it in my collection. I also saw an interview with this woman, and as you say she is all grown up now. Amazing capture !!
Regards,
Barry
