Cancer diagnosis
In July 1977, Marley was found to have malignant melanoma in a football wound on his right hallux (big toe). Marley refused amputation, citing worries that the operation would affect his dancing, as well as the Rastafari belief that the body must be "whole":

“ Rasta no abide amputation. I don't allow a man to be dismantled. ”
—From the biography Catch a Fire

Marley may have seen medical doctors as samfai. True to this belief Marley went against all surgical possibilities and sought out other means that would not break his religious beliefs. He also refused to register a will, based on the Rastafari belief that writing a will is acknowledging death as inevitable, thus disregarding the everlasting character of life. (wiki)

This woman irradiates so much strength, solid and beautiful. I'm not sure about what she is smoking - that makes the picture interesting and original - but this is a good portrait indeed, it is perfect, with the addition of your Photoshop work. This shot reminds me of a portrait of Bob Marley, that we've seen a lot.
Congratulations.

Nice portrait, Jure. Moody and indicative of a person that has the guts to take life atit's face value and do this with gusto. Except that in the picture she takes in with gusto the intoxicating smoke of the soft weed.

hi jure..
Great portrait..I like this colours tone..

m..

I have a B/W photo of Marley smoking on the wall. At first, I thought your photo was a tribute to that famous photo. Now I'm not sure. Is it?
As for the portrait, it's beautiful. Colours are also like a tribute to Marley's famous colours. Congrats.

Your picture is great and your note profound. I like your model's expression. The pov, though conventional, was a great choice for this kind of photo. The way her wild black hair forms a sort of frame around her pink/red face is very original and creative. I really like the contrasting colors and the crop. The lighting is interesting and the smoke is also very good. I especially like the way you can see some red on the cigarette. That was a good touch. Last but not least, I like your signature on her neck. Really nice font and very creative! I'm looking for a signature like that :D. Great job! Profound note as well. Bob Marley was one of a kind.

I like this woman's face too! Was she smoking bud or is that just a regular cigarette? ;) Again, I like the contrast of yellow and green tones you tend to put in your shots. It makes them more dramatic and the heavy contrasts work wonderfully for this, giving it a style and punch. The point of view is unique for this because in portraits photographers usually do not take the shot straight at the face, but this works here because it adds to the powerfulness of the shot, the theme, and the POV with the cropping and framing lets her awesome hair fill up a lot of the space. nice greens in the background too that tie in with the foreground. I like how her eyes are closed in self-satisfaction, and the smoke emenates (spelling?) from the cigarette/joint. Very unique, TFS!
Oh, and it's interesting that you mention Bob Marley's beliefs about wills. In some cultures that traditionally function on oral history (instead of written history) they see writing things down as "freezing" that thing or making it dead, or taking away it's life by writing it down, so it's quite similar to what Marley believed. I wonder if those beliefs have their roots in the West African origins of Rastafarianism.
