Spain From the Costa del Sol to Sevilla
An excurssion from Torremolinos to Sevilla, 2½ hrs.
One of the things for which Sevilla is famous, is the cathedral. Some people (most of them Sevillians) say it is the largest cathedral in the world. Is the St Peter in the Vatican not just a little bit bigger?
No matter if it's the largest or not, it is a VERY impressive building. It take quite some time even to walk around it: it is 126 meters long and 83 meters wide. The highest point (except for the Giralda) is 37 meters.

Construction of the cathedral started in 1401, on top of fundaments of the 12th Century Moorish mosque. More than a hundred years later, it was finished. Later, in the 16th, 17th and 19th Centuries, more constructions were added. This explains the many baroque, neoclassical and renaissance details in the mainly gothic cathedral.

One way you can still see the cathedral has formerly been a mosque, is the Patio de las Naranjas. In Moorish times, people could wash their hands and feet before prayer, in the fountain that's located in the middle.

OK, what do we see in my posting
Here we are inside Sevilla's Cathedral .. its the ceiling ...high above me .. not a perfect light situation
Flash wont work.. to high.. so: I streched down ..on my back.. horizontal, camera tight in hands
(1/15 shutterspeed) but I think I made it.
Funny remark: when I streched down.. two Japanese Ladies looked mouth wide open and quickly walked away from me ...a little in panique(I had to laugh)
Thanks for popping in Folks
John T

He John,

Very interesting cultural picture and also the note.
Beautiful ceiling. Maybe an other picture with more details later?
You are moving now in the art education direction.
Funny to reed your note. Didn’t you discover that there is a time exposure on the camera. Just put it with the back on the floor and push the button?

Thanks,

Hendrik

Hmmmm I wonder if we should start worrying about John, inhabiting lingerie shops and now lying down in cathedrals. Wonderful busy shot John, crisp and clear regardless of the light. Interesting notes as usual too. Avagoodweegend (Have a good weekend in Strine)

Hi John,
Very nice shot indeed. It could have been sharper but the image works well. Very instructive note too.

Hi John,
The mind's eye has to take a moment to realize it's looking *up* at something, since we usually look downward. Hence, it almost looks like we're peering down toward an Oriental rug or something similar. Beautiful colors and detail - loved your note too!

I think this is great. I like how you captured all the styles. I think Christine (ckradolfer) will like this picture. She has several pictures of architecture similar to this. It is very beautiful, and you did well for poor lighting and no flash or tripod. I can just see you lying flat on your back. A good photographer will do just about anything for a good capture! I can just see the ladies as they scurry away from the strange man lying on the floor. Thanks for sharing your story!!

Fantastic photo, clearand colorful, heel mooi!
Well done, You realy made us think of going to Spain
next school vacation John. ( July/August)

Hoi John; dit is de rugligfoto dus. Machtig rijk plafond; de hoeken staan mooi in je frame; het vergroot de dieptewerking.
Mooi werk.

They put so much effort into detail. Great colours. Whatever it takes to take a great photo even if you have to scare the poor women. That's commitment.

Well done John, great colours and detail,TFS.

Hi, John. Great image! I love the fine detail being showed here. Great POV. Nice warm colours. Great work.

It's not always easy to make a picture above your head and so the ceiling is in the centre. Good shot John.

Op naar de 4000. Gaat lekker!

Groetjes,

Don

John, dit is gewoon prachtig, de kleuren, het licht en de compo, echt mooi!
