Sandy, I like the subject, the comp, the light, BUT, you have oversharpened it yet again.... the moment you see those speckles appearing... you're done for. I seem to be the only one 'daring' to tell you, I'm only trying to help, all the best, M, (*_*)
Sandy,
I like the shapes and textures here. You caught just the perfect amount of detail and sharpness in the rocks. You caught the proper contrasts to make it interesting. I like the use of natural light here. I cannot see an oversharpening problem here. No need for me to check back with you....someone needs a monitor calibration,..because I see no speckles.
Scott
Hi Sandy,
I like what you've done here...the composition is perfect, and I like how it almost looks as if the upper third is in color and then "morphs" into black & white in the lower two thirds. You shot at the correct angle too, to get the shadows right and accentuate the "mini Stonehenge" you found.
I can't provide an answer to why the rocks have been stacked, only that I have seen the same "phenomenon" in Venezuela and Nova Scotia. Perhaps UFO's? :-)
Another member made a comment about supposed oversharpening, but frankly I don't see any evidence of it. The "speckles" referred to are, as you correctly pointed out, part of the rocks themselves - the "nooks and crannies" as it were. I viewed your photo on three monitors, a 21" CRT, a 21" LCD and a laptop, and all seemed fine. So don't throw your camera away!
If you're truly concerned about it, I wouldn't bother posting a query on the TL forums, for two reasons. Because of file size limitations, we'll never see your image in an ideal setting. Secondly, I doubt there's many people qualified to really judge it. I would post it, or a portion of it, to the Discussion Forums at www.dpreview.com, either in the Retouching forum or the Panasonic Talk forum. Make sure to do it at 100% crop straight out of the camera. Again, although I don't see evidence of it in the image you've posted, perhaps your camera does some internal sharpening that you can adjust/turn on or off.
In any case, great photo!
