Buckle My Shoe

1, 2, buckle my shoe,
3, 4, shut the door,
5, 6, pick up sticks
7, 8, lay them straight,
9, 10, a big fat hen,
Let's go back and say it again....
This picture reminds me that although kids around the world are different from each other, in many ways they are alike. Being German, this girl has never heard the "Buckle My Shoe" rhyme, but I did hear her singing her own little made-up songs, just like I did at her age.
This picture was taken in Spain, where a large group of Germans was helping with building projects at a youth camp. There wasn't a lot of time to go see the sights of Spain, but I did get many pictures around the campsite of the people I was working with. Even a lot of the children helped with the work, although this little girl was too young to really help.
This shot was a bit blurry because of low light, but I've found that those less-than-perfectly-sharp photos can often be rescued and turned into something interesting by adding brush stroke filters in Photoshop. I apply the watercolor filter to the parts of the photo that I want to be sharper, and apply the angled strokes filter to the rest of the photo. I hope the result is enjoyable! |
