Hi John,
that's a wonderful shot, you know I love insects and so I'm happy to see your beauty here. A beautiful arrangement on the brown sticks. It's a Black-tailed Skimmer, Orthetrum cancellatum. - And it can't stitch!!! ;-) That's an old superstition!

De gewone oeverlibel is een echte libel uit de familie van de korenbouten (Libellulidae).

De lengte is 30 tot 35 millimeter, de spanwijdte is 70 tot 80 mm. Mannetjes zijn blauw gekleurd met een zwarte achterlijfspunt en bruine beharing op het borststuk. Vrouwtjes zijn bruin met zwart met lichtere zijkanten van de flanken, jongere vrouwtjes zijn meer geel van kleur en worden later bruin.

Funny you should say that about this dragonfly my grandmother always called them darning needles, she told me they could stitch my eyes closed...now why would a grandmother tell their grandchild that?? Hi John,
What a gorgeous capture of this dragonfly. I love the dominant yellow in this one, and the color is even present in the gossamer wings. Fabulous detail in the insect as well as the twig that he is holding onto. The soft framing is nice in this shot, emphasizing the delicacy of the dragonfly.
