[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi,

Now I know you are probably not going to believe this, but this shot is actually a misfire, taken when I was cleaning my old D70, whilst on holiday in Sweden 3 years ago. (can't believe this is 3 yrs ago!). Note the evidence of my cleaning kit (god I've moved on!).

You will also notice the glass of red wine, (well what else do you do whilst cleaning your camera!).

You will also probably notice that the glass appears to be floating. I say appears to be, as it isn't actually floating anywhere, it is firmly placed on the table where I left it. Or is it?

I couldn't believe it either when I previewed the image, and I had to wait til I got home (no laptop in those days), to confirm what I had.

So is this a paranormal experience, or is it an optical illusion? You decide.

What is for sure is there was no trickery involved. It certainly wasn't set up, no strings, no pp to get the glass floating on a new layer......this is what the camera took, spooky eh!

i had to read your notes to see how you did it.
but looking at the photo closely, i noticed it is an
optical illusion. the shadow of the wine gives that
feeling of elevation. a candid shot! details do match your notes very well. good job.

Hi John
It is an optical illusion. But it does look so strange. It's all in the shape of the glass and the ceiling light a little off centre above it - I think!
But a good shot. Very interesting

Must be a very light wine,they produced that year,good one for the "Floating" theme.

Great addition to the theme John. An optical illusion indeed but with the camera movement a double, almost triple focus on the glass. Funny how some 'accidental' shots occasionally produce good results,

Thats a very cool effect there. It's always when you try not to do something does it come out like this. Did you ever try to reproduce the image? Im sure that is hard to recapture w/o it being an accident.

It kind of looks like something from the 70s with the way the lighting is, and a glass of wine, all you need now is a mirror, some white powder and a razor and it could be something like the movie "Boogie Nights"
