The Marktplatz is probably the most well-known public square in Basel. It is dominated by the splendid Town Hall (Rathaus), the seat of the government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, which also forms the city government. The Town Hall, which has occupied this site since the 14th century. In the year 1501 when the craftsmen, successfully persuaded the council of the city of Basel to join the Swiss Confederation, the former Town Hall was replaced by a more representative new building. The coats of arms of the 12 cantons that formed the Swiss Confederation at the time together with Basel were painted in colour on the battlements.
The Town Hall was extended in the early 17th century, and the enlarged façade was adorned with trompe-loeil by Hans Bock. In 1900 the Town Hall was extended once again, and the new wing on the left and the tower on the right were added. At the same time, the old rear sections dating from the 14th century were demolished and new buildings were put in their place.

This is just a detail (one more) from the beautiful city of Basel. This is a clock standing in the facade of the Rathaus. It's amazing how many nice clocks one find in Switzerland ...

Maravilhoso detalhe, eu fico imaginando de como deve ter coisas belíssimas na Suiça. Você mostrando este, nos dá uma previa do que pode se encontrar na Suiça.

Este tipo de "display" ficou muito original Stef. É um lindo postal da Suiça, que me fez lembrar uma caixinha de música que eu tive quando era pequena...

The details are great to see of this clock. If you want you can put a small black line around the photo before you rotate it. Select All/Edit/Stroke/Black/2px/Inside. Just a small tip. This way the photo won't fade into the white background like at the top of your image.

Great crop (or angle of the shot). I like how you've cut out some of the words along the bottom and framed this. Well done.

Very nice photo you made Stef, I like the colours and this one is better than the postcards in de souvenirshop ;-)

mmm how i've missed seeing your pictures and chatting with you about them sweetie.. so glad to be back and i think the internet problems may be over too.. fingers crossed! just have to deal with the horrors of moving (and healing) and this next week will be pretty stressful! but i hope when it's over i can rest a bit and breathe.. and start taking pictures again!
