Chess sets in Parc des Bastions

As anyone who has spent any time in Geneva will know, one of the most distinctive features of the city is the several giant chess and checkers boards in the Parc des Bastions, a former botanical garden turned into a promenade embellished with fountains, monuments, and statues. Over-hanging trees provide a canopy of sorts for shade. just below the old town and right across the Place Neuve.
The nice thing about the place is that almost invariably there is a mixture of serious matches going on beneath the regard of knowledgeable and passionate spectators, and games being played between parents and children, couples or total strangers.
