Flying at 26.000 feet over the Swiss Alps I took this shot from the cockpit window of a KLM Cityhopper Fokker 50 aircraft. On my way back home from Montpelier (France) to Frankfurt (Germany) and than…finally Amsterdam. It was in the afternoon and the sun was already descending and gave a little glow over the Swiss Alps mountain summits. Slightly at the right hand site of the centre of this picture you can see the Mont Blanc (4808 meter). It was a quite easy ride and had lots of time to enjoy the view. Flying over mountains areas is always beautiful in special when its clear weather. (With cloudy weather you would only see clouds folks). And: "No I'm not a pilot."

Smile!
Finally this Flight Attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at US Scareways."

OK one more: Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than US Scareways."

The Alps is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high), or a Celtic word.
The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc at 4,808 m on the French-Italian border. Mont Blanc (French for white mountain) or Monte Bianco (Italian, same meaning), in the Alps, is the highest mountain in Europe excluding the Caucasus Mountains. The mountain lies between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy and Haute-Savoie, France. The location of the summit itself is a subject of controversy between the two countries, and each tends to place it within its own boundaries on maps. In a convention between France and Kingdom of Sardinia, in Turin (1861), the border was fixed on the highest point of Mont Blanc and this was the last official definition of this border, but often the French maps do not agree about this solution. The two most famous towns near Mont Blanc are Chamonix, in Haute-Savoie, France (site of the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924) and Courmayeur, in the Aosta Valley in Italy.
The Mont Blanc massif is popular for mountaineering, hiking, and skiing. (Text from Wikipedia.com)

Beautiful shot, Hans. The light and colour of this one is magnificent, the way the sun is catching the flanks of the mountains is just spectacular.
But for your border and title, this could have been uploaded as a large panorama, I'd have loved to see that!
Great work

Hello again Hans !

Impressive panoramique shot with this late afternoon light. The shadows aand mist or fog in the valley give a great ambiance to the shot.
