Anyone up for some golf on the roof?
This Swiss Home in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland was one of the few chalets we spotted along our walk in the valley which was comprised of a green grass roof. Bright geraniums in window boxes are abundant in each mountain and city home alike.
If anyone can tell me of a good reason to grow grass on your roof-please let me know :)

TTFN, Ursula :)

Hello Ursula,
Nice photo. I love the style of the house and...do you want a good reason to grow grass on your roof? Well, you could have a group of sheep on it ^_^
Best regards,
Valeria.

Hi Usula. Good composition with good clarity and colours. Maybe they use grass on their roof for insulation? Maybe the soil and grass keep it a little warmer in the cold season. TFS. Murray.

Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ursula! Looks like a beautiful place and I really like the scenery here. I would recommend shifting your POV down a little more to get the house to take up about two-thirds of the photo since with it taking up less than half at the bottom, the photo ends up being bottom-heavy and doesn't allow the viewer's eye to go all around the photo. Maybe cropping the top off to eliminate the far background could help as an alternative method. Maybe adding some contrast will make the house pop out more, especially since it has a green grass roof (yeah that's unusual ;) ). Good shot though and great idea, TFS!

excllent colors and tones here Ursula :)
well composed and framed

grass on roof for camouflage? :P anyway it looks cute to hav a green roof :)

Hi Ursula,
I have no clue as to why the grass roof, but very interesting to see for sure. Has got me interested to find out why this is.
Beautiful display of greens here, with this natural colored home (except for roof lol) in the bottom. The colors are very complimentory of each other. I may have went for something different than a square ratio but then I don't know what was around. The only quibble I have (and it;s small) is the spot of yellow on bottom. Just looks like something that doesn't belong. A beautiful photo just the same Ursula. Thanks for sharing.
All the best,
Lyndon

Hi Ursula
welcome to TL
this photo stands out for its color of various greens, most noteablut the roof.
I like how you incorporated the background to give depth to the photo.

Hi Ursula: I like the lushness of this Pic the greens and the brown of the chalet for a bit of contrast, the flowers on the front of the chalet look like jewels in a crown. Quite well taken.I also like the blurred mountains giving a 3D effect.....Regards Romy ;-)

Hi Ursula,

Wonderful that here, I had never seen of as it is beautiful certain places of Switzerland, with beautiful chalets interacting with the landscape, every green east, and I am amazed with this gram in the roof, incredible of as it is beautiful this house, I think to house of dolls.
Beautiful visual, Beautiful!
Congratulations

Sérgio

Hi Ursula,
A beatiful image. Nice colours and composition. The subject of your pic is interesting, however, at first glance I looked at the blurry trees in the background, and only then at the roof itself. Maybe it would be a little better if cropped from the top. Anyway, that's only my opinion.

hello Ursula

A great capture, i like the blurred background.
Congratulatios.

Hi Ursula, this was a great catch. Actually, it probably is moss growing as we have a lot that get like that here in the mountains because it rains so much and is quite damp most of the year. TFS.

Hi Ursula
Maybe it is better to play violin upon a smooth green than upon hard slates. Or maybe in summer they bask on the roof and use it as a springboard over the swimminpool. Who knows? Anyway it makes a lovely scene along with the trees and the slope behind.
It is a really beautiful picture and very well done.
Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing.

I love the idea of a grass roof! I love all the greens, the color and focus are excellent :)
It's an all-around great picture, I especially like the pov.

Ursula,
Beautiful photo with lots of color. Green is my favorite color. I like the blur of the trees in the background (looks like it could be raining), but maybe could be cropped a little closer to the house. Love the scenery. Here's what I found about why the grass roof: "There are environmental reasons for adding a grass roof. Not only do they provide a refuge for birds and butterflies surrounded by concrete and tarmac, they reduce storm-water runoff and create a weather buffer which helps your roof last up to twice as long as regular roofs. A grass roof also has the ability to cool ambient air temperatures and reduce energy requirements." Also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_roof

Hello Ursula...
Great sharp capture. Fantastic detalis. Looks very interesting
and well presented.

Hi Ursula,

Great capture, I love the perception of depth here as the focus disappears in the distance, Is that a heat haze or some post processing? Its a great effect!

Excellent shot

John

Hi Ursula and welcome to TL. A delightful photo, well composed and lush colours. I like the almost out of focus mountainside and the light play on it. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Tamar Tranquillity VI’. It would seem as though I had once again neglected to load the original image…it is there now.

Hi Ursula,

Beautiful shot you have there, love the colours.. what a place... so beautiful, :D Excellent details and composition, I've seen a few of the houses around here have grass growing on their roof top, but mainly on their letter box's roof. :) Well captured, thanks for sharing

Cheers,
Sweety

Hello Ursula,
I found this framing amazing even if I am knowing very well Switzerland cottages (I live 150 km from there). This grass on the roof is very particular (and what green have you captured!)The blur of the background is essential to give depth. Well done.
Ciao
Violetta

Hello Ursula,

I have seen (and shot) this same house, although when I was there it did not have the grass on the roof. I like that you blurred the mountains behind to bring out the details of the house. The greens are lovely - I wonder if increasing the temperature would have brought out the red colors in the roof? Regardless, a great picture!

Hi Ursula!

Simply beautiful!
Those green grasses on roof are giving credit to this shot. I think this photo will look even better if you could add a bit more brightness.

Hello Ursula, Thank you for your condolences. I like the bright greens in this picture. I might have gone differently with the crop. The top is nice with the depth of focus but might be a little much. The focus is great and as I said I like the depth of field. Thank you for sharing and caring.
