Another upload of the Duxford Airshow. Big Beautiful Doll pulls away from Ferocious Frankie and Nooky Booky to carry out a solo fly past.

The 3 Mustangs mentioned are part of a trio display called the "Flying Horsemen" which i saw for the first time this year at the Warbirds airshow. Hopefully, i will see them again in shows to come, because it had to be seen and heard to be believed.
Their synchronised display, along with the sound of the 3 merlins held the crowd in awe.

I was lucky enough to catch this shot before the sky was totally overcast, and any remnants of sunlight disappeared before the show was threatened with rain.

You can see the reflections of the last of the remaining sun on the canopy, spinner and tailplane.

I removed the polarizing filter prior to the 3 planes taking off to increase light onto the lens, and took a meter reading from my grey card. I then took a reading from the already overcast sky to check exposure, and adjusted the aperture to 7.1 checking to see in any EV was required.
I was happy with the reading and stuck with it.

The aperture gave me a really good shutter speed allowing prop blur.
Knowing that the plane was at full throttle for the fly past, 1/320 would guarantee blur but allow a hand held panning shot.

Slightly cropped to remove wasted space in front of the plane, USM, resized and uploaded.

Hope you like it,

Martin

Hi Martin,
Excellent sharp shot of this roaring beast! Superbly sharp and still maintaining the prop blur. Great capture. Last yaer I captured the crash of the # 47216 P51. It was a narrow escape...
Anyway this P51 picture is a fine addition to your avaition portfolio.

Magnificent shot!
Perfect sharpness and great colours.
Excellent blurred effect of the moving propeller.

Fantastic shot, you have captured great detail and added a great deal of mood wit the blur on the propellers, along with the contrast of the plane with the grey sky.

Love the picture!!

Excellent job on capturing "Big Beautiful Doll" it screams ready for action, its sharp and I do like the prop blur, being an Aviation enthusiast myself I always love great shots like this.

On a Side note the mustangs of the flying horsmen will be at the Canadian International Air-show in a few weeks, Cant wait to see them now, I will try to post some Picture from the show of the mustangs and of course the Sabre thats going to take part as well. www.cias.org will give you the complete listing of all the performers at this years show along with some video of the performers taking part.
