My fiancee and I were out for a drive round north Essex and Cambridgeshire earlier today. As the weather wasn't that great and there was nothing specific for us to do, we headed off to Wimpole Hall - a National Trust Property just off the M11 not far from Cambridge.
When we got there, we learned that an historic re-enactment society was staging some skirmishes and exercises based on the last war fought on British soil - that between King George and Bonnie Prince Charlie in the 1740's.
One of the scenes was a set-piece skirmish where each side would fire volleys at one another and try to out-advance each other across the battlefield.
I managed (sheer fluke) to catch one of the guns at the precise moment of discharge - so what you see is genuine flame, not some Photoshop trick!
It was loud and quite violent. Obviously, they were not using real 'shot' - only blanks. However, it's surprising how much noise 30 of these guys can make when they get going.
The troops were amateurs dressed in the colours of and depicting regiments that really existed and fought throughout the war until the British routed the Scots at Culloden. |

LOL. That guy with the glasses is somewhat too "up-to-date", I think, Paul. Lucky capture indeed, though you really did a great job! One thing I don't like at events like this are the... spectators. They're always so difficult to avoid ;((.
Luckily here it's really the actors that catch our eye.
TFS.
Hello Paul
Superb shot here, very well timed, fully of action and colour, nice and sharp with good detail.
TFS regards Helen
