This is an old image, originally shot in colour, dull, overcast and wet. Original shot in RAW, hand held, wide angle lens.
I converted the colour original to B/W, adjusted the contrast and sharpened, but did not like it, so, I reverted back to original, and converted it to "greyscale" and played around with the gradients a bit to get the effect I was looking for. Image cropped and sized for upload.
I do a lot for print,my preferred medium, unfortunately, the size and scale of the upload thumbnails can make expression difficult. Printed on fine art heavyweight parchment paper, these images take on a different life. |

Hi H
I love the composition and detail in this shot, it's crammed full of interesting things but I'm not sure this exposure translates well to a computer screen, I'm sure it does print very well but it's a pity these moniters don't show the same kind of tonal range
Have a good one

hello Howard,
I can see how this would look so much better printed as you prefer. Its detail would be easier to digest and I don't think the PC monitor is the best medium for this fine photograph. I like your pp work and feel this greyscale serves the image very well.

Hi Howard. A problem we all live with, what looks good printed or on our puter screens at home looks so much less within the limitations of T.L. Here the tonal ranges are excellent and the atmosphere of a dark rainy day is related very well. We like it. Thanks for sharing.
Regards Phil.
P.S. We are still in Brazil spending the day in an internet cafe due to the tropical storm thats raging outside. We have taken a couple of rolls of infrared, one in a Botanical Garden and the other at the former residence of the Jundiai Baron. Also took lots of digital colour shots of some amazing graffitti. Flying home on sunday should be back posting by middle of next week.
