Hi Martin,
Brilliant how you captured this "bird of prey" I almost can feel the speed of the Spitfire. Great how you used the relative slow shutter speed to create the propeller motion blur although I also have the impression the plane isn't absolutely pin sharp (but near at it :-)
Anyway a great Warbird picture, clearness and contrast are superb!

One of the most beautiful aeroplanes ever built - oh for a ride!!
A nice side-on view - but definitely a distracting blur. I really wouldn't worry about trying to get prop blur side-on like this 'cos we can't see it anyway.. But I guess you fired off several shots as it entered from stage left. May I humbly suggest that you go to the nearest 'Jessops' and get a monopod. They are perfect for this kind of photography - heavy camera and lens and a moving target. Really makes a big difference to sharpness.

Hi Martin,
Another great shot....your positioning is perfect and colour contrast and sharpness has not suffered considering you have been at the bottom end of your 200mm ....I do agree with whiteknight about the monopod ...great bit of kit....look at Amazon site cheaper than Jessops very lightweight bit of kit ....thanks for sharing
Regards
Bill

This is just such an awesome shot.
At the entrance to Christchurch airport here in New Zealand is a RNZAF spitfire, and as a kid I used to look for it every time we drove past, half wishing I could play in it.
Your capture here presents the plane so simply and clearly, its lines are unmistakable - and the POV/angle gives us every bit the sense of flying alongside it, not a view from the ground.
Nice to see a good lens in action, too - I wouldn't have a hope of getting this kind of clarity with the Sigma (I think ...!)
I imagine if you placed this in a cinematic frame - heavy black borders at top and bottom with the frame itself in a 9:16 ratio - it would look even more dramatic and amazing.
