[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken at Chester Zoo last Sunday.

Like many 14 year olds my daughter has a problem with her self image. She never wants me to photograph her and always turns away (as in the top photo - I have many of this type of image). Luckily however I was able to catch her just afterwards in a more relaxed moment.
What is it about our society that puts such pressure on youngsters to be 'perfect'. OK I'm her mum but I think she's absolutely gorgeous!!

This is a stunner and Harri's not bad too!!!!

She is indeed lovely, Lesley, and actually looks older than 14. She has a knowing look in her beautiful blue eyes. I actually like the picture at the top because on that one she looks her age; carefree teenager. I might have put the two pictures on a black background with a tiny bit of space between them...just a thought. Well done!

Hi Lesley,
Lovely daughter you have. Beautiful detail of the eyes.

TFS

Lurdes

I know the feeling, Lesley... my 15 yo son does exactly the same. Lots of ruined pictures: turning away, putting a hand in front of the lens...
A good idea to put both pictures on top of each other, but maybe a small separating space would have been better ?
Did you ask your daughter what kind of shots she prefers ? Maybe that will make her think twice before turning her head away, next time you point your lens at her ;o))
TFS and Merry Christmas.

I'd agree with your assessment, especially her eyes. However, I tend to respect people who don't want to be photographed.

I detested having my photograph taken when I was 14 - still do at age 35. I tolerate it but you won't find me smiling in any photographs... that's why I got into photography, to be the guy BEHIND the camera (-:

I so agree with you, Lesley! Something must be terribly wrong when our kids are made to feel this way about themselves. And not only our teenagers. My daughter is nine and she is just the same at times.
This is a lovely portrait of a lovely looking girl. You have a bit of an exposure problem with some blown highlights. Could probably be fixed in PS.
Good work, Lesley!
All the best / Eric

Hi Lesley,

She is perfect and I might add beautiful- not to be sentimental (actualy I'm not going to be sentimental) but agh, screw standards. Who makes them? If we don't know who they are, why do we care?

Your daughter has fantastic eyes, I adore the dark ring around that crisp blue- very singular. I'll be genuinely honest, her hair is one of the prettiest colours I've ever seen... is it her own? Out of the two images, I can't decide which I like better. Point is- great catches... I'm 16 and I have to admit I've come to face the same issues- it's a drag, but we all make it by. ;)

Well done, well done! (By the way, great focusing and I love the blurry backgrounds.)

Biance.
