| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This large, gentle red ape is one of our closest relatives, sharing 97% of the same DNA as humans. Indigenous peoples of Indonesia and Malaysia call this ape "Orang Hutan" literally translating into English as "People of the Forest.
There are two separate species of orangutan - the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus).
An orangutan's lifespan is about 35-40 years in the wild, and sometimes into the 50's in captivity. This is one of the lucky one's, at least it is alive and not living in a land where its habitat is being destroyed by loggers. Whatever your views on Zoo's there is a lot of conservation work being done in the good ones. |

Super moment you've captured here Chris! I really like the way he is looking back at me :)
Have a nice weekend!
Greetings, lavinia
Hi Chris,
I like this but it seems to have a slight colour cast to it. What do you think? I did a workshop (the first for me). I'm beginning to feel confident enough at last! Hope you like it...tell me if you don't. I used photofiltre because I'm in work and no PS.
Take care :-) lesley
