The Axe & Cleaver is situated in the attractive village of Dunham Massey which is mainly owned by the National Trust. The walled park has a 300 year old deer herd and there is a manor house which you can walk around. The pub dates back to 1880 when it was a house with a beer licence. Over the years it has been built on and the Coaching Inn-style out-buildings are listed, although the pub is not. Outside the garden has a rural, tranquil atmosphere. Unlike many beer gardens, you can hear the sounds of the countryside and birds, rare breeds of cattle and sheep are visible in the fields. Inside, there is character in abundance with reclaimed furniture and two open fires adding to its charm. This is very much a destination food house with an excellent reputation for fine fayre. Like all Chef & Brewer pubs we employ high quality Chefs who have superb kitchen facilities. The food can be chosen from a main menu or unique Specials from the chalk boards which allow our Chefs to show their flair! You will be served meals which have been prepared from the freshest of ingredients and cooked to order. To complement your meal there is an extensive choice of quality wines or a selection of real ales if preferred. Because of our popularity we are a hosted environment which means that if you have to wait for a table you will be on a list and called in order. This enables you to relax and enjoy your aperitif. Come and try this rather special venue soon and meet the friendly staff at the Axe & Cleaver.
