[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tanners Yard,a link between the River Kent and Highgate in Kendal. It was late afternoon on a rainy day. Due to the nondescript grey sky, in this shot I tried to emphasize the cobblestone patterns in the pavement and walls. The subdued light filtering down through the overcast sky added a quiet timeless feeling to this common and overlooked transit space...once a thriving access to the leather and hide tanners' pits built so long ago,now reduced to a historic urban passageway. A note on this shot...the buildings lean to the right a bit, because I used one to lean on to get this shot....so I know. There was nothing to see but the backs of shops and waste bins lining the path further around the corner...so I am playing upon the unknown by not shooting from further around the curve. The sky seems very bright here but it was sporadically raining the whole time I was shooting.

Hi Christopher
Very sharp, good DOF for the task. Cropping a bit tight at the top but that's just my personal taste. A more conventional approach would involve lowering the contrast a bit in order to restore some details in the highlighs but the way you have set it is nice too. TFS

N/B really emphasizes your plate, very good, a pretty.

In my workshop, I just delayed the level of the photograph right and added by the contrast to this one but it is very pretty in any case.

Congratulations

Very good composition. Nice leading lines and the light on the wet cobblestone makes it shiny. Thanks for sharing,

Pierre

Hi Christopher,

The stone patterns do look nice, but the composition led me more to look at the curving, leading path.

The strong light that washed out the background is somewhat harsh to the eye. I'm not sure exactly how to set it up unless I was there, but maybe with proper use of the flash, light metering and camera settings, it could have avoided the bright light outside and still retained the shadows of the path.

Just the same, this is a nice pic.

Hi Christopher,
I like the way the eye is led along the cobblestoned path to the light . I also like the cohoice of black and white. Well done and TFS :-)
Cheers Tina

Hello Chris,

your photot remembers me to the small ways on the spanish island Mallorca.

The shining stones, B&W and the POV are greate.

Good work!

Martin

(me on web: www.weltderfotos.de you can translate the site with google)

it is a shame about the slight over exposure but i suppose what can you do it always seems to rain in Kendal!! Good photograph i think that shooting in BW has helped to retain some of the quality of the image.
