[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When I read Helen's theme for this week I immediately remembered that I had several shots of half timbered buildings such as this example:- The Merchant's House.

Plymouth was very heavily bombed during the 2nd World War but thankfully this house escaped.
It is tucked away down one of Plymouth's oldest streets.
The House is the finest surviving example of a 16th/17th century residence.

During the 17th century it was home to three of Plymouth's mayors.

It is now a museum, ''packed with Plymouth's history, a variety of old curiosities and everyday items.''

This is the best angle for taking a shot of the house as it surrounded on all sides by modern buildings.

The shot was taken in colour, desaturated and sharpened, plus a little contrast added.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
Very good B/W photo from the old house. I am glad that he escaped from war. I may see it because of this.Congrat.
Regards, Zsú

Jean,

Nice shot, and good note. Good sharpness, I wonder what it looked like in colour?

Hello Jean,

This house really suits being displayed in b&w! You have recorded some excellent details which give the building character!
How fortunate this building survived!
Good notes!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Excellent POV Jean, I have the same problem here trying to capture some of the historical buildings. Nicely converted with good contrasts and fine detail. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘BW - Cliff Grounds’

What a beautiful old house and what a superb photo of it. The flat, even light has allowed you to take a photo with an amazing amount of visible detail - no burn-out highlights or blocked-in shadows. A great record of a fabulous piece of English history. Regards, Paul.

Hi Jean, really good job with the conversion from color.I thought those timbers looked rather old,it appears as though there was some sort of fire looking at the fourth floor wall
guess they didn't want to clean it up but kept it untouched for its historical worth. You also did a good job keeping the newer buildings out.

Hi Jean,
Black and white is the only choice for this stunning old archtecture.
Your exposure and detail is perfect, well done.
My kind regards,
Pete.
