Hello everyone,
a view today from Plymouth, just below the Hoe,looking towards Tinside.

Tinside Lido: Bathing in the sea has probably gone on since man first discovered he could swim but the activity didn't really become formalised until Victorian times.

It was probably in the 1920s when the seaside lido became popular, as sea bathing underwent a transformation from a predominantly health activity into a leisure pursuit.

Tinside was first opened in 1935, and was described at that time as 'one of the finest open-sea bathing centres in the country'.
Plymouth's Tinside Lido must have been a stunning sight - it was built in the fashionable Art Deco style, with a classically proportioned semi circular pool.
The pool was filled with fresh sea water, pumped in through 3 cascades or aerators, giving a complete change of water every 4 hours.

Sadly in 1992, the lido was closed to the public after suffering years of neglect.
Only a vociferous campaign by local people saved this landmark.
The pool became a GradeII listed building in 1998 and has since been restored.
[Information taken from the BBC Devon website.]

It was a beautiful day as we walked along the promenade towards the Barbican; I had to take a shot of Tinside as it nestles amongst the rocks where the land meets the sea.I liked the natural lines in harmony with the man made structure of the Lido.

Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
A lovely and wholesome vertical composition. The town of Tinside looks mighty fine as there is good depth. The mustard-looking lichens on the rocks as well as the grasses on the f/g are sharp and provide handsome colors. Well exposed and composed. Greetings from a damp rainy Wash D.C.

Hello,

Très belle image de cette côte, avec la belle mer, l'écume blanche, ce partie rocheuse, une mangigique perspective, superbe.

Bravo et amitié

Nicou

Hello Jean,

A lovely composition with a fine sense of perspective. The eye is led effortlessly from the warm colours of the lichen on the FG rock, along the zigzagging shoreline with its frothy breaking waves.

The skyline with the conically roofed tower on the left side forms a strong diagonal down to the pier and the sea, taking the eye towards the distant low hills on the right. I also notice repeating diagonals of the rocks and steps as we come back to the FG again.

I think that it might be possible to give this fine image a bit more impact by tweaking the levels slightly. I will try a WS for you consideration.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Jean

Nicely captured scene, a good POV and good composition with nice placement of the skyline.

If you use PhotoShop, this is a great case for using layers and layer masking to adjust the levels - because the upper part of the photo is bright, the lower part of the photo is quite dark, and if you were to create two differently-processed versions and smoothly blend them, I think the final result would be breathtaking!

(Let me know if you want some tips on the technique!)

Hi Jean, Good "along the coast" perrspective. Guess that swimming is for the brave rather than meek in here. It would be good to see it restored to its former glory days. I like to see Plymouth as i went to high school in New Plymouth, NZ, literally the other side of the world from here. Good colours in this fine composition. TFS, Murray.

hello jean,
I like the vertical format of this well composed shot.
Lots of depth to the compo.
the lichens add a lot of Fg interest.
have a good Christmas,
Joni

I like the view Jean. The swimming area looks quite deep and rocky. Nice colours
