[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello everyone,a view today of the gardens at Hoe Lodge, the eastern end of the Hoe, in Plymouth.
It is to commemorate the birth of Charles Darwin who was born 200 years ago.
The gardens remind us of Darwins' trip on the ship The Beagle, and his visit to the Galapagos islands where he first set eyes on the giant tortoises.
As you can see in the picture, a tortoise has been imaginatively created using plants.
In November it will be 150 years since Darwins book 'On the Origin of Species' was first published.

"Through a combination of meticulous observation and innovative thinking,Darwin came up with an explanation for the incredible variety of living things: that evolution was driven by natural selection.
By this process, organisms most suited to their environment survive and reproduce and pass their advantages to their offspring."

Hi Jean,

What a splendid shot of the garden with such an explosion of colors!
Great clarity and sharpness of the shot. The colors are superb and they stand out well against the blue color of the sky. The dominating red color is the best part of the picture.

Often the success of a photo comes from picking the right light, the right angle, and the right time of day to take it. You made all the right choices with this - it's clear, clean, beautifully lit and balanced.

Crazy that there are people - plenty of people - who don't "believe" in evolution. That's like not believing that the Earth is round ....!

A man who contributed much to science - but described New Zealand (as it was then) as "the hell-hole of the Pacific."

Oh well.
