This is a male Mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos) taken at Stover country park, I thought I would try something different today and present a portrait style shot to try and show some of the colours and details in his head, The male is the more colourful of the mallards as the female is mainly brown in colour with an orange bill, the Mallard is the most comon of our ducks and can be found throughout the UK (we even have them with young in the quarry where I work).
