I took this shot a few weeks ago and wondered when I might use it;the theme seemed an appropriate one for me to post this today, with the bright orange of the upper part of the boat.Visible at sea by those in need of help.

RNLI:-Royal National Lifeboat Institution
The RNLI is a charity that saves lives.

This is the Torbay lifeboat, an all weather lifeboat, an inshore D class boat.
The RNLI would not exist if it weren't for all the volunteers that man the boats and work in many ways to raise money to fund this essential service.

Last year [2008]RNLI lifeboats rescued almost 8,000 people, an average of 21 people a day.

The RNLI has an active fleet of more than 300 boats, ranging from 5m to 17m in length, and a relief fleet of about 100 boats.

The lifeboat institute began its life in 1824,see www.rnli.org.uk/who_we_are for further information.

I realise that the shot is rather busy with all the masts of the bg boats but nevertheless I hope that you enjoy looking.

Bonjour Jean.
Une explication intéressante accompagne cette image parfaitement cadrée.
La bonne exposition a donné de belles couleurs et montre bien l’ambiance qui règne dans les ports.
Bonne journée.

Hi Jean I'm glad i took the time to look at this, as i found your notes on the reason very informative.

As you noted the bg is certainly busy, but the object of your photo, shows well and and certainly stands out from the rest.

Hi Jean,
An interesting image.
Excellent color with some beautiful details.
Have a pleasant day,
Adrian

Nice and sharp Jean - cracking camera the Cybershot.. The orange stands out beautifully here.. Nice panoramic format too - I don't think people use that enough..

I personally would prefer to see a plain white or black frame as I think the addition of a colour is difficult to pull off well - but - it's an intense colour day ;-)

David

Seems Orange is a well seen color, on many things that are important, yellow also is very prevelant here as a warning color! Good job on this Jean! Nice and sharp! I like the long crop! Thanks for posting!

Hi Jean,
Hi Jean,
Very nice capture and good entry for the theme!
Orange against blue is a complementary harmony often used in publicity. For a lifeboat, it is very appropriated too forcing the attention on intesity of urgency and rescue!!
Excellent panoramic format and fine details. Bravo! Annie

A good example of how color can make a difference:) This certainly draws attention and contrasts well against the marine scene. Good light and composition, with clear details. Lots of interesting details to look at and enjoy:)

Hi Jean,
Excellent capture for the theme with an amazing orange colors and black of the boat,
excellent POV./Dof. well presented and composed,
beautiful colors and light.
My compliments
Michel

No need to apologize for a busy shot The masts make it more interesting IMHO Nice clarity and the orange is quite intense Any one in trouble on the water would be glad to see this particular orange up close TFS

David

Hi Jean

Yes, a rescue craft needs to stand out during an emergency. Good entry in the theme. Excellent colour contrasts against the blue with superb sharpness & framing. Tfs!

Hi Jean, good one for the theme.
Yes, the colour certainly needs to be bright to show up on the water in bad weather.
It is interesting to see the busy BG and to read your notes - thank you...
Janice

hello,
Lovely colours and great image. Well done.
Best wishes,

HI Jean
Indeed one could not say they never saw it. Outstanding color,
and the array of masts with the background peeking out of them, is indeed a great find and capture
