The rule of thirds doesn’t always work, I think. I wanted a vista that included as much of the sky as possible to preserve the depth of colour, so cropping it according to “the rule” wasn’t an option this time.
I am sure that some of you will disagree :). Fortunately art is not always bound by rules and tastes may differ. Feel free to express your opinions, of course.

The capture: this, of course, is our own Green Baron surveying the lay of the land from the top of the ruins of Corfe Castle. From here you can see the mouth of the River Frome and the great natural harbour at Poole (behind Hans in this PoV). With such a long view, it would have been easy to watch for potential invaders when the castle was first built.

Tech: Captured in raw, adjusted levels and colour saturation slightly in raw, converted to jpg, resized and sharpened, framed and signed for TrekLens

Thanks for looking and for any feedback, critiques and workshops you have to offer

Hi Silke

A superb high pov & added bonus of the gb himself! A wonderful colour palette of blue & green. Tfs!

What's that monolith on the right of the shot??

It's the strength of the green that catches me here, a very typical English countryside view with the bus on the country road, what looks like a railway line and the variety of trees. Lovely view, well captured.

Indeed. Great work silke

Hi Silke
Very beautiful view landscape.
Gr Jos

What a gorgeous view you captured here Silke.
I like the lines leading out on the bottom.
Magical sky color and cloud patterns.
Having Hans in the frame really brings the scale to the shot.
Well seen and captured.

Wonderful landscape with great depht and strong colours and detail. Excelent perspective with the crossed lines of the streets dawn, and the way up. Not for the rules, but perfect, Silke.
My regards, mb

Hiya Silke

Sometimes we just have to say stuff the rules and here your POV and composition is just right. Wonderful scene and I like the way teh road and the fense run accross like a diagonal criss cross.. Hansie gives a pretty good focal point too :-)

TFS kind regards Helen

Excelente panorámica con un colorido bien equilibrado.
Fabulosa iluminación.
Un cordial saludo, Jl.

Indeed, Very 'Grande', Silke. and so green.

Hi Silke,
Like the landscape here, a tighter crop might even improve the image :-) The colours are very natural, like it was on that afternoon. Great panoramic view with a nasty cameraman as contrast :-)
Great posting Silke!
Hans

A well composed image Silke with good colour and light but I cant help feeling that the sharpness is too much especially in the middle distance. I theink the monolith that Rihard refers to should get on his bike more often :).

It does look a lovely countryside Silke. I remember it as being very green just like this.
If you had cropped off the brighter blue sky the image would have been quite a drab scene - even thought Hansie was brightening it up!! Sometimes the rules are there for breaking,

beautiful green.. and with Hans compo is really perfect!! ;)
nice the colours and so good the pov!! thanks Silke!
ciao Marco

Rules or not this is a breathtakingly spectacular view, I especially like the Green Obelisk on the right trying to figure out its Nikon, glad you managed to get yours working for this shot.

Beautiful work, lovely view - and good composition I guess, although I would have liked to see whether a 1/3rd placement of horizon was actually more powerful. ;)

Hi Silke,

I agree, no need for the rule of thirds here - this works for me.
It is quite possible that the Baron felt like a King in front of his castle with vista's like this - beautiful!

Hello Silke,

A wide, w-i-d-e view over the vast Dorset landscape!
Seems like you found the only elevation within miles for your point of view...
Good light and fine details, a well composed presentation!

superb image with Green all over & good sharpness. Well done.

Hi Silke,

That's a good shot.
Placing a character does add the interest.
Natural tones, and soft moods.
Did you try a shot, without the character there?
Sometimes, we look things different, and try many varieties..
I would prefer another POV here for this shot, with a POV near to the character's left, and with a more high view, getting the nature of life down the land, giving it some more visible feel. What do you say?
Take care.
Hope you are fine.
