[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello everyone,we were in the Essex town of Saffron Walden at the weekend for a family wedding, and having some time to spare in the morning, we had a leisurely wander around.
These hollyhocks were growing outside a row of very old cottages.I liked their natural colours and form contrasting with the 'stripes' of the walls of the cottage.

Thanks for looking.Your comments are always appreciated.

Hello, Jean.

I love houses and their walls like this, and they are just the perfect backdrop for this fine picture of these flowers. What lucky people get to live in a home like this?

This is a very faithful reproduction, I believe, of what you saw when you took the photograph: many might say it is undersaturated and, indeed, had you wound up the saturation, it would have stood out more and perhaps attracted more attention. But I rather like it as it is and I have to congratulate you in not being tempted to "overcook" the processing, a temptation which I sometimes find difficult to resist.

Unfortunately, much though I like these flowers, I always think of them as "'Olly'ocks" which is the way we most usually hear them named!

Thanks for this one, Jean.

Kind Regards,

John.

A very warm and cozy image. I have a soft spot for hollyhocks as they remind me of a dear friend who passed a couple of years ago, we use to sit out beside hers and have some great conversations. TFS and have a happy day!

Jean Hi;
Beautiful old architecture with beautiful Hollyhocks. Your have composed the image, with clarity and detail as well as beauty. Thanks for the note.
Congratulations, very well done.

Nicely captured Jean in what appears to be a murky light. Lovely textures in that old wood work and the colours contrast well,
David

Hell Jean,
favourite cottage garden flowers of mine. I also love to see those ancient timber framed buildings. John said just what I would want to say about the saturation. And I must tell him that I laughed at his refernece to dropped aitches, as I nearly always drop mine (I'm a Lancashire lass is my excuse).
I wonder though if it would have been possible to straighten the dark outlines of the timber to run parallel ( have I spelt that right?, it's too early for my spelling brain)with the frame.
Bev
