Rhododendron

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a photo, taken in my back garden, of a rhododendron bud opening. The colour version shows the beautiful colouring but I wanted to reduce the shot to pure form and texture and to remove as many of the contextual distractions as possible.
I spot metered to get the bud exposed just as I wanted it. Had I used a 'pattern' seting,. it would have been much lighter as it would have tried to correctly expose the foliage.
I've used a sepia tone as, even for me, the pure B&W version is a bit too stark.

Paul,
Interesting - maybe odd, photo!
The technical aspects all seem fine and you've probably achieved your intended look on this one. But what is the look? To me, it has an air of decomposition about it, something rotting, or about to rot. I could be wrong on this - I'm no flower expert - but that's the impression I get - probably accentuated by the tones you've used.
Regards
colin
Hola Paul:
I really like how you captured the pure essence of this flower, as you say with no distracting or emeblishing colors.

Hi Paul
I think you have entered into the sureal here - would not have guess rhododendron at all - I understand your goal and you achieved it but I'm not sure at what price.
