I had the pleasure of going up this new tower today, the following story was featured in the Daily Mirror.
"SIX YEARS LATE AND £11M OVER BUDGET, TROUBLED SPINNAKER TOWER FINALLY OPENS.. THEN THE LIFT GETS STUCK
THE jinxed £36million Spinnaker Tower opened yesterday amid high farce - as the boss got trapped in its lift 100 feet up.

Embarrassed council project manager David Greenhalgh and two colleagues were stuck in the glass viewing pod for almost two hours.

It had shuddered to a halt just 15 minutes before the first customers were due to go up the 558-foot tall attraction in Portsmouth, Hants.

It was the latest setback for the tower, which is £11million over budget and should have opened six years ago - in time for the Millennium.

After engineers finally freed Mr Greenhalgh, he admitted the hitch had been "very embarrassing and upsetting". Unusual wind conditions were blamed for a mechanism failure, but trouble with the lift has been one of the reasons for recent delays in opening."
The sky was very dramatic (but not this dramatic, I may have helped it on it's way a little).

I reallu love the yellow color...It is really nice. The architecture is particular, looking like a piece of art...TFS! and Congradulations! Nice frame too!

Hi Michael,

Excellent capture and well done on the composition and details. maybe you can get some of that quid with this shot, it's worth a try. Beautiful work.
LOL to the note. What a bunch.!!! Hey, they should of had Mr Bean go up there and get stuck with his teddy. LOL

Hello Michael, another beautiful sunset with great pov of this nice futuristic tower. It may have cost way more than budgeted but at least, it makes a nice subject for a photographer's delight :)

Thats a tower! Unbelievable! It's simply like a scultpure... But when i saw the middle part, i saw it look bigger then i think! It's an observatory?

Very impressive picture and what you did to the sky complimented the shot.
I agree with you, I wonder if all this money couldn't have been spent in a different and probably better way, but...

Lovely postcard you have made of this impressive tower. Maybe they should use it as as an advertisment. Well done.

I may have been "very embarrassing and upsetting" but well worth it IMHO. The tower looks amazing especially with this sky. All good things take time to be made and when it comes to constructing something like this it's doomed to be late as soon as the blueprints are approved. It's still a great piece of architecture eventhough 6 yrs late. What is 6 yrs in comparison with how long it is going to be there?

Seem to me that this tower if your fav. subject to photograph.

An incredible structure, which can be captured loads of times, every time under diff. light conditions, diff. colour effects, from diff. sides.

A structure, item or any subject has to be interesting enough for it to be photographed so many times, and every time it looks diff., more interesting, more mysterious.

Very nice.
