This is Spud (stable name) he was out in the field this morning with his mum and when I turned up with my camera he came running across being very nosy wanting to know what I had in my hands. He is a real poser and stood up nicely for me. I liked this head shot as it real shows off his beauty. Its a shame that he was wearing his foal slip but I know that this is important on a young foal, that way you have a better chance of catching him if he decided to be naughty. He is very playful and the girls love handling him.

All C&C welcome

Hello Jane
Yo have a great eye - the composition here is superb - a fine portrait shot.
Where I think you could improve here is with your depth of field. I am not quite sure what your focal point was, but at f/5.6, the dof is so shallow that too much of this lovely creature is out of focus. Since this appears to be a recent photo (taken today?) perhaps Spud also lives close enough for you to have another go?
Great colours and very nicely framed

Hi Jane,
This is a nice portrait of Spud, the focus is a little soft but the colours are good, maybe if you get the chance a lower POV would help too.
Well done
Regards Andy

PS The stsble girls need to learn how to puth the headgear on without twisting the strap.

Hello jane,

What a cute little guy and a very good portrait. That pony headcollar is just a bit big on him.
I was also out today got a few shots of a foal.
Nice soft colours.
TFS, Joni

Hello Jane,

Very nice portait of this lovely horse.

Following the comments from Silke, to get a better DOF, my choice for this picture would have been 400 ISO, 1/125s, f11.

Most of the time, I set my camera to 400 ISO (except in full sun) because I don't see anymore big difference in quality between 100 and 400 ISO especially if your camera is recent (- 2 years old) and besides, because most of commercial zooms are not fast (max aperture f3.5), so I need more ISO.

Congratulation again for you nice picture

Have a nice day, Michel
