Hello everyone,
This is a very simple shot of an ermine moth, taken in the kitchen of a friend's house one night during a drinking session, which I offer as an excuse for any deficiencies in the quality of the photograph ;-)
A brief trawl of Wikipedia and the "Concise Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland" by Martin Townsend and Paul Waring has revealed that this is a White Ermine (Spilosoma lubricipeda), of the order Lepidoptera and the family Arctiidae. The caterpillars feed on dandelions and other weeds, as well as shrubs and fruit trees. Adult moths are minor pollinators. They are quite common in the UK from April to August. This one has damaged its wing somewhere along the way.
Cheers, John. |

Wowww! This is just amazing! Feel like gently touching it. I agree with Tom, it does look like one of those long garments worn by the Lords in the olden days.
Thanks for sharing.
