[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Fourth in my series of pictures of butterflies - this one showing a rarely seen activity in butterfies : cannibalism! The brown "lump" to the left of the frame is a cocoon and the Glass Wing Butterfly (Greta Ota) is sucking the juice out of it.

A Butterfly's wing color is due to tiny scales over a transparent membrane. Transparent butterflies only have scales along the edges of their wings, exposing the transparent membrane. When they fly it is very difficult to see them.

PP work - crop, resize, USM(20%) and added the border

Hi Mark,
Interesting not, I didn't realise that butterflies were like that and I have never seen one of these before, you have captured it well with good colour and detail.
Tfs Andy

Hi Mark,
you know I love insects - and special these tiny glasswings, they are beautiful.
Very good shot, thanks and greetings

love the beautiful transparant wings Mark... very good sharpness and nice, bright colors.
The dark background is less appealing, but I think in this case very good, because it makes the butterfly come out just fine!

Cheers!
Anneke
