Onions

Morning all,
This is the first one I've posted from my new Nikon. Because I shot it it RAW then converted it to J-PEG (whatever that means) later it hasn't transferred any photo information, but I think this was taken with a fairly high F stop setting to get a reasonable depth of field. But I might be wrong.
Anyway, this was taken at a recent Herefordshire Art event in a village called Wigmore. A friend asked me to call round and take some pictures of the paintings she had displayed in her garden and while I was there I noticed these organic onions for sale and thought they made a nice picture. I was in two minds about whether to crop the top of the shot but decided to leave it as it is in the end.
Cheers,
John. |

Hiya John
I like the idea here and the shot is in reasonable focus. For me though something is not quite right. The colour seems a touch soft but the light is bright and thats fine. I think maybe a lower POV to show more of the front onion in one of the lines might have been more condusive. It might have worked better with a lower f stop to hold the front onions in complete focus but then loosing out further back.
Well seen and nice idea for an image though.
TFS regards Helen

Hi John, it almost brought tears to my eyes.... Good to see the first product of the Nikon, as Helen says the DOF could possibly have been adjusted with some advantage but you have nice russett colours to compensate. I think I would have been tempted to take from a bit more to the side so that the rows ran diagonally across the shot, this would also have avoided showing the bare table underneath. However, it is easy to criticise with hindsight. Good first shot, keep 'em coming.
Cheers,
Dad
Hi John,
At last the Nikon has a trip out! I like the depth of feild but think a lower F stop would work too.
Cheers
