Good Morning Everyone,

Something a little different, this morning. A village full of old, classic cars!

A couple of weeks ago, a Riley vintage rally was held at the local pub in our village. It caused quite stir to have all these beautiful, old cars adorning our car park. The cameras were out in full force!

It caused me to do some research about them and I found that, amazingly, the Riley Company began over a century ago. Here is the info from Wikipedia:

Riley began as the Bonnick Cycle Company of Coventry, England. In 1890, William Riley Jr. purchased the company and renamed it the Riley Cycle Company. Ultimately, the portfolio included cycle gear maker Sturmey Archer. His teenaged son, Percy, began to dabble in automobiles. He built his first car at 16, in 1898, secretly, because his father did not approve. It featured the first mechanically operated inlet valve. By 1899, Percy Riley moved from producing motorcycles to his first prototype four-wheeled quadricycle. In 1900, Riley sold a single three-wheeled automobile.

If you would like more information about these classic cars, please click here.

Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hi Bev

Interesting title, is this because you were in the bar prior to taking this?
Nice shot of these old cars and well presented.
Maybe if your POV had been taken more from the right and lower you could have isolated the cars, but not easy when so many around.
TFS

Regards Derek

Hi Bev,
Oldies! It's good remeber. I had some doubt about the shadow over the white auto.
But is a good shot as usual. Interesting diagonal position. Good POV.
Best regards,
Raimundo

Hello Bev,
It is such a treat to view these vintage classic cars. Hard to choose which I like the best. I do like how you composed them diagonally and eliminated the sky, perhaps to even the exposure. There is good sharpness and the colors are well rendered. Regards.
Danilo

Hi Beverley

Good repetition of the vintage cars that look like they might have been used by Dick Tracy or Elliot Ness. Excellent colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Bev,
A nice line-up of these vintage costly cars!
Very good lighting and fabulous colors and very shining chrome!
Nice greenery as BG complimenting the perspective.
A good POV and a very neat presentation.

Hello, Bev.

What a beautiful line-up of post-war Riley RM's!

I can vividly remember, from the early 1950's, our dentist's having one of these cars. It was brand new and black and shiny and, even in those days as a young schoolchild, I thought it was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen and marvelled over its lovely curves. Even now, I still love the lines of these beautiful vehicles, the last of the "true" Rileys before they were taken over by B.M.C. I didn't care much for the dentist (he feigned deafness when working on my teeth, not responding to complaints of pain, but could hear a pin drop at other times) but I loved his car!

But I also love your picture. Nicely presented with the cars in a fine diagonal across the frame against a nice background of trees. I see another Riley just visible at the left and the split-windscreen of another behind on the right but what's that red car at the far right? Is that a rogue Mercedes that has sneaked in amongst this beautiful bevvy of British belles? Not sure.

A very fine photograph, right up my street! Thank you for this one, Bev.

Kind Regards,

John.

Bev

Hi Bev,
Great line-up, a pity they weren't all facing the same way! :). Your POV works well here, with the thick green bushes reinforcing the background. Good details and exposure too - Bravo.

TFS,
Scott.

Pano crop enhances the composition.

Wonderful colection of cars.

Nice, natural colours.
