[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a collection of some of my personal favourites. I joined TL on 7th April 2006 and just shy of having been here for 3 years have decided to call it a day.

Whilst I have had the pleasure of learning some great photographic skills from a wide range of people here I have got to the point where the cliques, bigotry, ignorance, witch-hunts, jingoism, intolerance and downright rudeness which seems to now be an accepted part of being on this site nowadays is no longer making it fun to participate. There are a select group who seem able to get away with anything and who want to run the site through a mixture of intimidation and insults. Less and less a photographic community....

Still, to end on a positive note I'd like to say a great thankyou to the following members, all of whom I have learnt something from, either through their well considered critiques, the informative notes with their pictures or simply through the pictures themselves (in no particular order):

Hi Mark

You'll be sorely missed. Whichever site you join, or in any large organisation or group, there are always troublemakers & egotistical members. Just igmore them, would be my advice. I hope you still pop in to TL occasionally. A nice mosaic of your impressive gallery. Cheers.

I think exactly the same thing of you but i make my little things....and i continue to take advantage of photography.....
Sadly when someone like you leave..it let too much place to the "others" them who are undesirables.

What a great collage - you have a wonderful display here. I can recognise some that I have commented on.
You and I have critiqued each other now and then, and but we never got to know each other.
But I am sorry that you are leaving TL. I know there comes a time when we will all drop off, so I wish you well and keep shooting

I feel a bit sad to see you leave TL, but on the other hand I most certainly understand this.
and... we'll "meet" again!

You have been a great inspiration to me and there are still number of techniques that you have shown us and that I remember. I will try them in the near future and I'm sure you'll get to see the results!

So sorry to hear that you have committed digital suicide here Mark. I think you are railing against the human condition, which has been here for thousands of years, and will continue to be whereever two or more are gathered.
There will be those of "like mind" who will congregate together, and those of "opposing views" who will bicker. But as Shelly says, "don't sweat the small stuff and it's ALL small stuff"
To work for 3 years building your FREE page, and then to slam it all in the dirt over a few petty views of others is silliness. I USED TO be a runner...when the going got tough, the weak bailed out! No more...today I stay and talk. No hard feelings. We all agree to disagree. The key for me is to accept others as they are, but still talk to them, banter about, or even argue..but in the end respect their differences from me.
I found your sense of humor refreshing. I'm sorry you lost it over something "virtual". I for one will miss your Alien Face..

Hi Mark

I'm sorry to see you're leaving, and sorry to see your photos have disappeared! There was much to be learned from your gallery also.

I expect there are cliques and witch-hunts here, personally I have stopped visiting the forums because of that, and happily, ignorantly do my own thing - critiquing the shots I want to and occasionally posting a few of my own.

I have enjoyed the humour, innovation and occasional challenges you have brought to this site. True, it is sometimes infuriatingly conservative but when you have such a big melting pot the flavour will inevitably be bland.

Stay in touch, and do let me know if you decide to pop up on any other sites, I'd like to follow your work.

Bonjour Mark,

I hope you will keep those last three pictures here, as a reminder for all of us...
Most of your pictures are (note that I do not say "were") a valuable source of learning. I fell like if I had lost a handbook about photography and post processing.

By the way, how can I do such a collage? Is this made with Photoshop or is there a simplier way to do?

Hello Mark!

I missed your depature since I was away for almost five months myself. Pretty sad to read these hard feelings today as I am visiting your page.

I agree with Rew , Linda, Claude, Janice, Anneke comments to name a few, so I won't repeat what has been said.

It was said many times before, the point system is frustrating only if you pay attention to it yourself. To me a photographer's images are speaking by themselves, the quality is signed and not valued by the amount of comments, greenies.

We can not encourage only the top photographers, since newcomers need feedback and tips too. I believe snobism & elitism is not a solution either.

The forums, I avoid them, as too often they are truly not constructive, but destructive.

I am simple amateur who still enjoy TL after five years, despite its imperfections. But I do need to take a break at times too. Posting photos is one thing. But TL is more than that. It is about sharing and willing to help and appreciate others.

You will be missed by me for sure. Take care Mark. Sincerely,
