Another shot from the Royal Norfolk Show, this time of "duck herding". Norfolk has a great history of poultry farming, and at one point in the distant past the vast majority of geese and turkeys eaten in London came from Norfolk. As this was prior to modern transport the geese were "driven" to London - not as dramatic as herding hundreds of cows perhaps, but would you want to keep thousands of cantankerous geese going in the same direction day after day?
This was just a little demonstration of herding ducks, which was still a challenge.

Don't you just love to see these dogs at work???
A few years ago I used to watch the matches on the BBC... it's really amazing to see how much fun both dog and owner have in working with geese/ducks or sheep!
I think this is a good capture, showing the cooperation between the dogs and the owner. Nice colors and good light too.
Cheers,
Anneke
Nice colours and detail Mark and the elongated crop works well. An interesting breed of dog to the left (behind the hutch). Well done,
David

Hello Mark! what a sport! :-) Good action shot, good technique, well done, thanks!
Mario
Hello Mark,I like your shots from the County Show.I particularly like this one.
It seems to be a picture of two halves but it is well balanced, with the spectators on the upper right hand side, and the action on the lower left.
I saw something similar on T.V. recently, it was fascinating.Excellent handling by the woman and her dogs. And no, I would not want to be in her shoes trying to manoeuvre these ducks into place!
A pleasing shot with no obvious blur.Good sharpness.
Tfs, regards Jean.
i only ever saw the sheep herding not duck herding but that one on BABE movie which i saw more than 50 times :) beautiful capture of the demonstration.. cute duck esp. the no. 4 and of course the dogs..
regards, terry
