Ex LMS Pacific Loco No 6229, ‘Duchess of Hamilton’. Built in 1939 she was one of a number of streamlined locos built by the London Midland and Scottish Railway with heavy steel streamlining fitted over their boilers. The casing was removed in 1946, and the loco carried on running without it until withdrawn by British Railways in 1963. The National Railway Museum and an enthusiast’s magazine raised the money to rebuild the loco to its 1939 condition. It is seen at the NRM in York next to a period Chrysler.
